31st International Conference
Welcome to ICC2023
The 19th General Assembly of the International Cartographic Association (ICA) and the 31th International Cartographic Conference (ICC 2023) will be held in Cape Town, South Africa from the 13th to 18th August 2023. The event is being organised by the South African National Committee for ICA. The logo is indicative of the theme for the conference which is “SMART CARTOGRAPHY FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT”. The colours covering the globe are representative of the 17 SDGs, all below Table Mountain – a natural wonder of the world. The world-class Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC), located in the beautiful coastal city of Cape Town has been selected as the main conference venue.
By 2023 we will be immersed in the 4IR with new ways in which to represent geospatial information, and new ways in which humans interact with and use cartography and geospatial information. This has given rise to new cartography and geospatial information science and management. The topic of ‘smart cartography’ will be ready for discussion and debate. In 2023 the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and will be at the half-way stage. This will be an important topic for consideration by the international cartographic and geospatial information community at that time, particularly in an African city.
The conference website has been launched and will have regular updates on submissions, call for papers, map and children’s map exhibitions and other technical events.

We are proud to announce that the Ninth Session of the United Nations Global Geospatial
Information Management for Africa (UN-GGIM: Africa), is scheduled to take place from 14 to 18 August 2023, in Cape Town, South Africa. This will take place alongside the International Cartographic conference at the CTICC.
Join fellow SDG Data enthusiasts at the SDG Data Alliance Workshops that will be held at the ICC2023 in Cape Town at the CTICC. This event is open for all to attend.
